| Dyan
began her self-employment adventures during expo 86 showing her business plan
to friends and family and securing enough "love financing" to buy 11 thousand
500 pounds of Maple Syrup and dragging it all the way from Montreal to Vancouver.
Two years after expo came and went, she had become quite the sales and marketing
queen (for sheer survival) creating new and innovative ways of gift packaging
her remaining 3000 pounds of maple syrup, paying all of her investors back with
interest and profit. She started a hand painted leather jewelry and fashion accessory business that grew from a spare bedroom to 3 retail locations, (Ottawa, Vancouver, and Coombs) with wholesale accounts across Canada and appearances on the shopping channel. Over the past 10 years, Dyan has combined her passion for small business with her love and fascination for coffee into a roller coaster ride of portable café cart manufacturing, mobile café concessions at festivals, farmers markets, to starting a successful store front café, offering sold out Barista courses and one of a kind café accessories. Three years ago, Dyan's business plan won her the bid to design, build and launch the café/restaurant in a new international airport. The café won "Small Business of the Year 2005" for Vancouver Island, sponsored by the "Minister of Small Business BC" as well as Runner up for "Restaurant of the Year". Dyan hired and trained staff to run all aspects of the day to day business including ordering from suppliers, inventory and quality control, merchandising and promotion, in-house and aircraft catering and developed a sales package turning the now turnkey café into a lucrative business opportunity which she sold in May 2007 for an excellent profit. This dynamic entrepreneur shares her business stories and hands on expertise on turning "Beans into Bucks", from Craft Fairs to National Television, with present and future small business owners alike. Her workshops and seminars on starting, running, and selling a successful enterprise are met with rave reviews and are constantly sold out. Today Dyan operates her Small Business Training and Consulting Company. In June of 2009, Dyan together with her husband Gary, launched their new coffee roasting business with an ocean view vacation rental above the roasterie. The Royston Roasting Company and A Great Place To Stay .ca where to "wake up and smell the coffee" is a daily ritual! | |
